Frequently asked questions
Are these PDF tools really free?
Yes. Every PDF tool here is free to use with no account, no sign-up and no watermark added to your files.
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF tools use pdf.js, pdf-lib and qpdf compiled to WebAssembly, so your files are read and written in your browser and never sent anywhere. The only exception is OCR, which downloads its language data the first time; your PDF still stays local.
Can I use the PDF tools on my phone?
Yes. They run in any modern mobile browser, and Scan to PDF can use your phone's camera to photograph documents.
Can I convert a PDF to Word or Excel?
Yes. PDF to Word makes an editable .docx, and PDF to Excel pulls tables into an .xlsx spreadsheet. There are also converters to JPG, PowerPoint and Markdown.
