Frequently asked questions

How long should a strong password be?

At least 16 random characters, or a passphrase of 5 or more random words. The meter shows the entropy so you can see how strong it is.

Is a passphrase better than a password?

A passphrase of random words can be just as strong as a shorter random password and is much easier to remember and type.

Is this password generator safe?

Passwords are made in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues, a cryptographically secure random source. Nothing is sent or stored.

What is the EFF wordlist?

A list of 7,776 common, easy-to-spell words published by the Electronic Frontier Foundation for generating passphrases.
