Reduce a PDF to under 200 KB for an application form or upload portal. It tries the gentlest settings first, so a typed document often keeps its selectable text, and it shows the exact size in bytes and whether it fit. The PDF is compressed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use Compress PDF to 200KB
Choose a PDF. The Target size is already 200 KB; pick another size or Custom if your form says otherwise.
Click Compress to 200 KB.
Check the result: its exact size in bytes, whether it's under 200,000 bytes, and what was changed to get there.
Click Download PDF and upload that file to the form.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?
Choose it here and click Compress to 200 KB. The tool searches for the best quality under 200 KB by itself, so you don't have to guess a level.
What does 200 KB mean here?
1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, so the target is at most 200,000 bytes. That is the stricter count, so the file also passes portals that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes. The result shows its exact size in bytes, so you can compare it with your form's limit.
Can a scanned certificate fit in 200 KB?
Usually, if it's one or two pages. A scan is a set of photos, so re-saving them at a lower dpi shrinks it a lot. A long scan may have to be turned into lower-dpi page images, and the result says when that happened.
Does compressing to 200 KB keep the text selectable?
If re-saving the photos is enough, yes: text, fonts and drawings aren't touched. If the text and fonts alone are over 200 KB, pages are turned into images and the text can no longer be selected or searched.
How do I put an Aadhaar front and back into one PDF under 200 KB?
Photograph or scan both sides, turn them into one PDF with JPG to PDF, or merge two PDFs, then compress the result here. Shrinking the photos first with compress image to 200 KB also helps.
What if the PDF is already under 200 KB?
The tool still repacks it losslessly, which can make it a little smaller and changes nothing visible. If that can't help, you get the original back, marked Already under 200 KB.
Is the PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
Where a 200 KB PDF limit comes up
Supporting documents on Indian exam, admission and scholarship forms, such as mark sheets and caste or income certificates. Check the exact limit in the form's own notice.
Job applications that ask for a résumé or experience letter as a small PDF.
Bank, insurance and other KYC uploads that take an ID proof or address proof as a PDF.
How the 200 KB target is reached
First the file is restructured losslessly; if that already fits, nothing visible changes. Next, photos inside the PDF are re-saved as JPEG, starting at 150 dpi and 72% quality and stepping down to 60 dpi and 40%. Text, fonts and vector drawings aren't touched, so the text stays selectable and searchable. Only if that still isn't enough is every page turned into a picture, from 150 dpi down to 50 dpi. At each stage the tool searches for the highest setting that fits instead of jumping to the smallest.
What happens to the text
When the text and fonts on their own are bigger than the target, the only way to fit is to turn each page into an image. The page still looks the same at normal zoom, but its text can't be selected, searched or copied, links and form fields stop working, and fine print gets softer as the dpi drops. The result tells you which of the two happened. If you need the text back, run OCR PDF on the result, but note that adding a text layer makes the file bigger again.
